Airtel mobile customers can now experience mobile internet at never-experienced-before speeds with 3G. For  faster internet accessibility for computers and laptop users, Airtel  has introduced special HSPA 3G dongles for customers.

Airtel also announced the national launch of a range  of video Interactive Voice Response (IVR) products, which will help even non-internet users to use video streaming to enjoy the power of 3G services on their mobile phones. With this, Airtel 3G customers can now also make calls to video IVR to access various video products like live darshan, video talkies and video portal.

To activate 3G on your existing Airtel connection steps are ......

1) Check if your city has 3G available

2) Call 12134 to activate 3G or

SMS 3G to 121

You will get a response saying reply with “1″ to activate 3G. Send 1 to 121. You will receive 3G profile via SMS within 4 hours. Save that and use it for the Internet applications as you do for 2G.

NOTE that your

2G Data Plan will be de-activated.

Make sure your mobile Network setting is set for Dual Mode( 2g/3g UMTS) not just GSM mode.

After the confirmation by subscriber 3G Data Plan “Pay As You Go” will be activated and all data access will be charged at 30p / 20kb.

Airtel 3G  Tariffs

The Tariffs are as follows:

• PAYG VBC (Pay as you go): For all existing Airtel 2G customers who want to experience the power of Airtel internet on 3G for a short while, this tariff plan is the solution. The customer will pay the same prevailing data rates as on 2G service, but with the advantage of a faster mobile broadband.

• Value plans: These plans allow you a 50% discounted rate over the PAYG VBC plan. Applicable only for postpaid users.

• Sachet Plans: The objective of these plans is to drive mass trial and adoption of 3G. As part of the Sachet Plans is also a ‘minutes’ based plan wherein customer can access internet on 3G in terms of ‘time’ instead of ‘volume’. This plan is typically suitable for youth wherein lot of internet browsing has traditionally happened through Cyber Cafes on basis of ‘time’.

• Standard Plans: These plans are best suited for the mid to high-end users of data.

• FlexiShield Plan: This plan has a combination of free data usage and a low inbuilt Volume Based Charging rate. The plan is constructed in a way that it provides the customer the flexibility to start from a relatively lower initial rent and pay as per usage and shields from a bill shock with a bill cap at Rs. 2000.

Airtel has also introduced a first of its kind internet usage calculator (on www.Airtel.in/Airtel3G/) that will help customers monitor and analyse their current internet data usage and choose an Airtel 3G plan accordingly.

The figures show that India represents almost 17.31% of the world's population, which means one out of six people on this planet live in India. Although, the crown of the world's most populous country is on China's head for decades, India is all set to take the numero UNO position
by 2030. With the population growth rate at 1.58%, India is predicted to have more than 1.53 billion people by the end of  2030.
India's effective literacy rate has recorded a 9.2 percent rise to reach 74.04 percent, according to provisional data of the 2011 census released on 31st March 2011.Effective literacy rate in the 2001 census was 64.83% which improved to 74.04%.Interestingly, literacy rate improved sharply among females as compared to males. While the effective literacy rate for males rise from 75.26 to 82.14 percent marking a rise of 6.9 percent, it increased by 11.8 percent for females to go from 53.67 to 65.46 percent.

Google NFC-based Mobile Payment Mode; Coming Soon!

A recent development in the tech sphere suggests that the search giant Google is joining hands with MasterCard and  Citigroup to empower Android devices so that users can make purchases using their smartphones. It will make you just wave your Android-powered smartphone at the counter to pay for your purchases. Interesting, right?

The idea, once implemented, will turn your smartphone into an electronic wallet. The Near Field Communication (NFC) technology will be used in the implementation of this payment method. Major card reader manufactures are already supporting this technology. Google’s Android smartphones already features Near Field Communication technology.

However, the search giant’s intention is not only to make things easier for the people. The move is seen as an attempt from Google to boost their advertising business too. Probably, the purchasing system will allow Google to share more data regarding the users with the retailers.

Retailers can use this information to target customers with discount offers and specific advertisements. However, it is not yet clear if Google will get a share of the transaction fee.

When developed into a full fledged system, the model will allow users to activate a mobile-payment application in their Android phone, by way of which they will make the purchases. Probably, the service will be available only to those who hold Citigroup debit or credit cards.

Though there are wide-spread apprehensions about the security of such payment methods and the financial risks related to it, experts brush such worries aside. According to them NFC is a sophisticated technology and it is difficult to steal financial data this way.

The Smallest Laser in the World Created by US Researchers

The latest invention of American researchers is the laser that claims to be the smallest in the world. They managed to develop the laser by squeezing light into a space that is even tinier than a protein molecule. Their latest invention could be a significant breakthrough in the field of optical technology, making one step closer to nanolasers, which can be used to investigate and manipulate DNA. In addition, the laser can lead to the creation of super-fast computers and improved telecommunications.
The team of researchers was led by Professor Xiang Zhang. He mentioned that the plasmon laser constricts light into a gap that is only 5nm wide. An important step was the ability to detain light in a small space for a specific period of time required for light to stabilize into a "coherent" laser state, having all of its waves synchronized.
It is worth mentioning that plasmons are in fact wave-like movements of excited electrons on the surfaces of different metals. By connecting light to these oscillations, scientists managed to compress it further than usually, reports The Telegraph. More information on lasers and latest inventions you can find here at www.IfoNIAC.com, please check the links at the bottom of the story.
Professor Zhang, from the University of California at Berkeley said: "Plasmon lasers represent an exciting class of coherent light sources capable of extremely small confinement. This work can bridge the worlds of electronics and optics at truly molecular length scales." Their latest invention was described in the online version of the journal Nature. The scientist who co-authored the research, Dr Thomas Zentgraf, from the University's Nanoscale Science and Engineering Centre, stated: "The advantages of optics over electronics are multifold. For example, devices will be more power efficient at the same time they offer increased speed or bandwidth."

Microsoft Milan Surface Computer Playtable: computing table

Some big news from Microsoft yesterday on a new computer called the Microsoft Milan Surface Computer (or Playtable) which is basically a computing table.

Then you add to that some amazing technology and this is one of the best products I have seen from Microsoft in many years, just look at the photos (IT LOOKS AMAZING) and I am not just saying that because I love technology and gadgets.

With all new computers and phones the designers are talking computer interaction and touch (just look at the iPhone), this is the first product from Microsoft’s Surface Computing group (a tabletop computer code-named Milan).

30-inch horizontal display and 22 inches high, this acrylic table is very similar to a table top Pacman game my dad had years ago but obviously not with the technology that’s in the Milan Playtable.

Microsoft Milan Surface Computer Playtable Features:

• Wi-Fi enabled (put a WiFi digital camera on the table top and the machine downloads the photos automatically)
• Interact with photos much like actual physical photos (pass them around the table)
• Music application turns the table into a virtual jukebox
• Concierge application that helps you pull together an itinerary for a day out in a strange city
• First generation Microsoft Surface Computer aimed at retail and in bars and hotels
• Browse the Web
• Imagine controlling a Media Center PC like this
• Interactive slideshows
• …and so much more

The surface computing market is potentially a multi-billion dollar business, so Microsoft does not want to make the same mistakes they did with Search (They are getting in early with this market).

Microsoft is launching the platform just for big retail clients currently (or I guess if you’re a millionaire you can get what you want, for a price).

So for us lesser earning people, the cool Microsoft Milan coffee table will just be in the photos…

http://www.bhaskar.com/article/NAT-if-pakistan-attacks-india-it-will-be-devasted-1804851.html
